Get in Shape and Stay in Shape

You can count on me to tell you EVERYTHING YOU DON'T WANT TO HEAR!

Q.  What do you do when you get that strong urge to eat something that you shouldn't?  I have a huge sweet tooth and I am always fighting that chocolate craving.

A. You're not a special case. EVERYONE LOVES THAT STUFF.  Did you ever hear of self discipline?  I would LOVE to eat sweets 24/7 and I really don't know anyone who wouldn't...

It is really very simple.. you have to realize and accept the fact that you can NOT have both the sweet crap everyday and pursue your best body so it just becomes a choice.  Which do you want more?  Your actions will determine which is more important to you.

If your choice is eating the crappy food which is very delicious,  but it is not in line with your fitness goals, then you can start over again the next day and 'get back on track'.     You can just use the old saying..."Tomorrow is a new day"  blah blah ... but that will be one extra day you are further away from your fitness goals.  So be strong and stick with your goals.  Do you want to be fit or not?  No one has ever died from saying no to eating a cookie.

Q.  What is your bodyfat percentage?

A.   I don't know, and I really don't care what the number would be.  I use my eyes to check on bodyfat and I guess I have about 3 levels using my vision,... high, medium, and low.  High would be visible jiggles and fat rolls.  Medium would be looking  fit, but no visible muscle or definition.  And low would be seeing muscle definition, veins, and overall lean looking.

Q.  If you don't mind me asking, What does your diet consist of?  your workout program doesn't seem that complicated, so the key has to be your diet........Can you please, please, please let me in on the secret?

A.
You were so close to 'getting it' when you realized there is no magical complicated workout routine, but you just fell apart in thinking there is a secret magical eating combination of foods.  I eat all my food plain and unprocessed from the 'plain food list' here on this site.  I get enough protein, fat, and carbs for my body.  There is no  magical combination, you just need to fuel your body for your needs with the right food, and eliminate the wrong food consistently.  I don't eat any junk food ever (only birthdays and vacation), and the elimination of all junk food is what has given me the best results and keeps me lean.

Yes, eating is key....but the secret is that there IS NO SECRET.  If you are willing to eat right all the time and give up eating your favorite goodies everyday, you will do well.  I always eat eggwhites and oatmeal for breakfast, and usually have different combinations of vegetables, fish, oatmeal, and nuts throughout the day.  I eat a bunch of mini meals and the number always varies, no 2 days have ever been the same.   That's it,.. no recipes and nothing fancy.  I know my body so I don't count or measure my food.  I know the difference between what I need and what I want.  I need protein, fats, and carbs everyday.  I want pizza, but I don't eat that.  Some people measure their food, and some don't.   Do whatever works for you.

There is no magical combination that will grant you a fit body overnight.  Don't worry if you should choose the green beans or the broccoli, the oatmeal or the brown rice... there is no right or wrong, you just need to fuel your body properly for your goals and stop eating so much crap.

If you've been eating like crap all year, and suddenly you want to get lean in a record amount of time... good luck.  I couldn't imagine all the crazy work it work it would take to do that.  Not to mention it is probably dangerous and unhealthy. Plus, you'll never be where you would be if you were doing it right all along, instead of treating the body like an on/off switch.    That is why I just keep steady all year and I never need to take drastic measures to try and get back in shape... I just stay consistent.

So if you are just starting out, be very patient and don't give up.  Results and progress take time and there is no quick fix.
Consistency is key.    Fill in the blank for this sentence....   " I have been working out and eating right consistently for 'blank' years.  When the number you put in that blank keeps increasing, you'll keep getting better.  And once you start, be sure to never find yourself saying,..."I'm getting back into it again".

Q. Have you ever thought about competing in fitness?  you would win for sure.

A.  Thank you,  but actually I wouldn't win or even come close to it.  My body type does not fit into any of the competition  categories.
I am too lean for a 'figure competition' and I have very little mass with a skinny style build.  All those muscle competitions want to see some serious mass on the ladies.  I like my mini muscles and am not looking to get big muscle mass.   I don't do any sort of acrobatics,  so a  'fitness competition' is out, and I am not interested in bodybuilding.  I would never change my body to try and fit what someone else is looking for in a physique, I would rather just keep being the best 'me' I can be and enjoy my life as a fit person.  I am always trying to improve in being stronger, tighter, and more physically fit.. I call my look the 'ChickenTuna'... all the muscle without the size!

Q. What supplements do you use?

A.   I take fish oil everyday, flax seed oil, multivitamins, protein powder,  and sometimes protein shakes and bars when I'm on the run and don't have much time.

Anyone who looks at any one supplement as a 'make it or break it' should not bother even using them.    Supplements don't have magical powers to get you in shape.

Things I don't use.... steroids, fat burners, and HGH.  I've been frequently asked about these things and really don't know anything about them, except for the fact that they weren't needed for my fitness goals.  I have used a method of hard work and sacrifice on a consistent basis for my results.

Q.  Do you ever have a cheat day or meal?

A.
First off, I don't use the word 'cheat'.  I'm not on a diet and never have been, so there is nothing to cheat on.   I have a permanent eating style consistenting of the foods on my plain foods list.  And no,.. I absolutely do not have a day where I stuff as much crap in my body as I can.  I work too hard for that and do not enjoy feeling like shit after eating all that stuff.  On special occasions or vacation, I may have a 'treat' but that is all.  I put my focus on improving my body, not on how much crap I can eat.  It's different for everyone though.  I would suggest eating as much crap as you possibly can, see how that works out with your goals, and then take it from there.

Q.  I want my girlfriend to start working out and get in great shape.  What can I do to motivate her?

A.
Absoutely nothing.  You can only keep yourself in great shape.  If your girlfriend isn't willing to put in the hard work and sacrifice it takes to get fit then she isn't going to be in shape.   She has to want it for herself.  If you get on her case about it, you'll make her feel like she isn't good enough the way she is and you could wind up making things worse in many ways.

Q.  I am getting bored of eating all the plain food.  Do you have any really good recipes?

A.  Recipes?? I eat all my food plain so I don't see how there could be any recipes, plus I don't cook.  So you are bored of the plain food.... are you also bored of being fit?  Plain is plain. Throw some mustard or hot sauce on it, but if you think you are going to get your excitement from eating the body building foods,  you can keep on waiting.    I would suggest shifting your focus from eating the most delicious food, to improving your body.  Wake up call..... Where is your focus?  is it on  eating the most delicious food or improving your body?
